Must Read!- They ascribe to Ahlus-Sunnah but hate ascribing to Salafiyyah.. Why? – Shaykh ‘Ubayd al-Jaabiri

Shaykh ‘Ubayd al-Jabiri Hafidha Allaah :

For verily many people who claim they are Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah and that they are upon guidance, detest ascribing to Salafiyyah. And so that their hearts are comfortable with this ascription, and by this, I mean the ascription to Salafiyyah, and their resolution becomes firm and that which has fallen into their hearts; this dislike (of ascribing to Salafiyyah), it is a whispering from the Devil. And this was solidified in their hearts due to weak resolution and limited understanding in the deen. And if their determination was firm and strong, and they had gathered strong understanding of the Religion, then they would not dislike this ascription to Salafiyyah. And they would not find any objection to this. Then I say to them,Firstly, There comes in ahaadeeth of the Messenger of Allah salallahu ýalaihi wa salam, that which establishes this. From them is the saying of the Prophet, alaihis salaatu was salaam to his daughter Faatimah: “How excellent a Salaf I am for you!”

And secondly, this ascription is not something new, rather it is from the time of the Companions, so it is said about them, that they are the Salaf. And the word ‘Salaf’ is something common with the Imaams of this Religion, and the people of the Sunnah and the Jamaaýah, and this is clarified further, by the consensus (ijmaa’) upon the correctness of ascribing to Salafiyyah and that there is no objection to this.

Listen to this ijmaa’ being reported by Shaykhul Islaam ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullahu ta’ala, when he said:

لا عيب على من أظهر مذهب السلف وانتسب إليه واعتزى إليه بل يجب قبول ذلك منه بالاتفاق فإن مذهب السلف لا يكون إلا حقا”

There is no criticism for the one who proclaims the way of the Salaf, who attaches himself to it, and refers to it, rather it is obligatory to accept that with unanimous agreement(Ijmaa’)” to the end of his statement: as the way of the Salaf is nothing but the truth”. Return to it if you desire, page 149 from the 4th volume of Majmoo’ al Fataawa.

And ibn Taymiyyah is an outstanding authority of our methodology and he is one whom it has been testified concerning him, that he has great standing and likewise he is one who has preceded in excellence. He is reporting to us, this Ijmaa (concensus)’. And who is ibnu Taymiyyah when he reports Ijmaaý? Surely he is a hujjah(proof) when he reports an ijmaaý. And along with this, know that very few of people of knowledge, their statements are relied upon when they quote al ijmaaý.

So O youth of al-Islaam specifically, and O Muslims generally, Donýt let there be any dislike in your chest in ascribing to Salafiyyah. Rather raise your heads by this, and openly proclaim it. And do not let the blame of the blamers overtake you. And I will add one more thing; Shaykhul Islaam ibn Taymiyyah, in the previous reference point, I think it was page 115, he said, from the signs of the People of Innovation is leaving off the ascription to the Salaf us Salih.

You will not find a khalafee, especially those who are linked to the newly formed Islamic groups that are present in this time, those who are at war with Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah except that they hate as-Salafiyyah and ascribing to Salafiyyah. Salafiyyah is not only an ascription but it is directing completely one’s ikhlas (sincerity) towards Allaah, subhaanahu wa taýaala and singling out the Prophet salallahu ýalaihi wa salam to be followed only.”

So, the people, O my children, are of two groups: The party of Ar-Rahmaan and the party of Ash Shaytaan. So the party of the Devil are the disbelievers and the hypocrites, with the hypocrisy of belief. And the party of Ar-Rahmaan are the Muslims, those who do not commit any actions that will cause them to totally leave the realm of Imaan. And the best of the party of Ar-Rahmaan are those who do not misguide, and are not misguided. Those who proceed and take the path of guidance and truth at any time, and any place and they do not unite upon misguidance. And they are the Salafees, they are Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaaýah, they are the Firqatun Najiyah (Saved sect) and the Taifatul Mansoorah (Victorious group).

What is Salafiyyah? Nice simple Answer.

Salafiyyah is the correct Islaam, the Original Affair, The saved sect, the Aided group & is what Allaah revealed to His Messenger before the emergence of all the Deviant sects.

The Messenger of Allaah salallaahu alaihi wa sallam said: “I am a blessed Salaf for you,” and Salafiyyah is taking the Messenger as Imam in ‘aqeedah, Manhaj, Character, Manner of worship & Understanding the entire Religion- each ayah and hadeeth- as he (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) explained it to his Companions.

Linguistically, the Salaf are those who preceded, as Imam an-Nawawee rahimahullaah and many other scholars rahimahullaah have explained. The Salaf are:

1) Prophet (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam)
2) &all the Sahabah
3) Then the tabi’een
4) Then the atba’ at-Tabi’een

And this is in accordance to the statement of the Prophet salallaahu alaihi wa sallam: The best of mankind is my generation; then those who come after them; then those who come after them. [Bukharee & Muslim]

And the Salafee is the one who follows them in belief, methodology, da’wah, ‘ibaadah, manners, and character. So Salafiyyah is a connection to the Salaf.

“The jews split into 71 sects. The Christians split into 72 sects. This Ummah will split into 73 sects, ALL of them will be in the fire EXCEPT ONE. They (the Sahabah) said: “Who are they (that saved sect), oh Messenger of Allaah?” He (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said: They are the ones who are upon what I and my companions are upon.
[Aboo Dawood, Ibn Majah, Ahmad]

Shaykh ‘Ubayd al-Jaabiree (hafidhahullah) said: “And ad-Da’watus-Salafiyyah is understanding the Qur’an and Sunnah as Allaah and His Messenger (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) have commanded us to do so. And it is doing what Allaah and His Messenger have commanded us to do, desiring the reward that is with Allaah. And it is staying away from that which Allaah and His Messenger have prohibited, fearing the punishment of Allaah. Salafiyyah isn’t a new terminology; rather It is old.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-‘Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) said: “As-Salafiyyah is following the methodology of the Prophet (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) and his Companions, because he (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) is from our Salaf. The Companions are those who preceded us, therefore following them is Salafiyyah.
[Liqa al-Baab al-Maftooh, Q.1322]

Allaah, subhanahu wa ta’ala says:
“And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (Muhammad salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) after the right path has been shown clearly to him- and follow other than the believers (companions) way- We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell. What an evil destination. [An-Nisa’ , ayah 115)

How To Treat a Person of Sunnah Who Has Fallen Into Sin | Al-‘Allâmah Ubayd al-Jâbirî

Questioner:

“I have a friend who shaves his beard and wears his thobe musbil but he speaks with the speech of Ahlus Sunnah. I advised him a lot should I leave him or continue to advise?

Al-‘Allâmah Ubayd al-Jâbirî:

“Do not leave him as long as he is upon the Sunnah and he has this error which is sin. Stay with him and inshaa-Allaah he will leave it off. And be diligent in making beloved to him sitting with the righteous and visiting them and establishing the prayer in congregation and inshaa-Allaah he will be guided, so long as he is a person of Sunnah then he is close to good if Allah wills and it is hoped that he will be guided.”

Learning Arabic, Qur’aan,Tajweed from Ahlul Bid’ah Wal Ahwaa

Question: What is your opinion regarding one taking lessons of Tajweed and Arabic language from a non-Salafee whose condition is unclear, but whose mistakes we keep away from? So is there a difference of opinion amongst the scholars regarding this issue?

Answer: O my daughter, studying from the people of innovations is very dangerous.

Firstly, I advise you and every Muslim that it is obligatory upon all of us to keep away from the gatherings of the people of innovation and desire; we must not take knowledge from them since they cannot be trusted since they are the enemies of the Sunnah; likewise if they have little knowledge of the Sunnah, then it is not permissible to study under them because it is feared that they will instil their doubts in you.

Secondly, whoever is firm on the Sunnah and strong in his knowledge but needs a science or knowledge that he can only find amongst the people of bid’ah (innovation), then there is nothing wrong for this person to take that knowledge from those people with the condition that he doesn’t accept their mistakes but instead points them out.

So for the newcomer to the Sunnah, it is not permissible to take knowledge from the people of innovation, even if it is Qur’aan, Tajweed etc… whereas a person who is strong and firm on the Sunnah and he needs a knowledge from them [Ahlul Bid’ah] then he can take knowledge from them… But, however, if there is a Salafi person whose present then it is Waajib to keep away from the Ahlul Bid’ah. The Jilbaab should be worn from the HEAD, NOT the shoulders, and do NOT obey your parents if…

{The Jilbaab should be worn from the HEAD, NOT the shoulders, and do NOT obey your parents if they tell you to not wear the JILBAAB}

In the Name of Allaah, Ar-Rahmaan, Ar-Raheem…

Question posed to Shaykh ‘Ubayd al-Jaabiree

[Q]: Is it permissible for a woman to disobey her parents if they command her not to wear the ‘abaaya?

[A]: It seems to be apparent that you, O my daughter, are from the khalaeej (the Gulf States) if in fact you are not from Saudi Arabia. It is obligatory upon the Muslim woman to wear the jilbaab. The jilbaab is an outer covering that conceals the beauty of a woman and her clothing; it covers her body from head to toe. This means that it covers the entire body.

As for the ‘abaaya that is most popular in the Gulf States, then it has taken the place of the jilbaab.

I say that if in your area the jilbaab is predominately worn by the people, then do not wear the ‘abaaya. However, if in your area or country the people predominately wear the ‘abaaya then do not obey your parents (i.e. wear the jilbaab not the ‘abayaa) as there is no obedience to the creation when it involves disobedience to the creator.

At this point I would like to clarify that THE ‘ABAAYA OF THE WOMAN IS TO BE WORN UPON THE HEAD, AND FOR HER TO WEAR IT UPON THE SHOULDERS IS AN ERROR, even if some of the people of knowledge have given verdicts that the ‘abaaya can be worn on the shoulders.

Verily, those who have given the verdict (stating) that a woman can wear the ‘abayaa on the shoulders have only done so because they were unaware that the ‘abayaa has taken the place of the jilbaab; and the jilbaab is worn from the head.

Understand this, may Allaah bless you.
