It Is Not A Proof That So And So Is Salafee Simply Because He Studied With A Salafee Shaykh

Shaykh Ahmad Baazmool (hafidhahullaah)

Be mindful: Some people use as a proof (the fact that) so and so from the students of Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen or from the students of Shaykh Ibn Baaz, that so and so (this person) is Salafee. No. This is not a distinguishing sign according to the Salafees. It is only the Minhaj, manners, and attestation.

Due to this, frequently we get the question: “A man came to us claiming that is was from the students of Shaykh Muqbil; from the students of Shaykh Rabee’; from the students of Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen.” Is this sufficient? The answer is no. Not until he is attested to. Hence, he may be, and this is something well-known, he may be from the present day opposers. Rather, perhaps some of them are Takfeeree; some of them are perhaps Takfeeree, even if he ascribes to having studied under Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen. Due to that, it is not to be used as a proof that so and so is similar to him. Clear? This is a benefit, so pay attention to it.

Due to this, when ‘Alee Al-Halabee comes to us and says: “I am from the students of Al-Albaanee.” That’s it, he is ruled to enter directly into Jannah?! He is ruled to have knowledge absolutely?! No, this does not suffice you; not until you walk and traverse upon the methodology of the Salaf upon which Al-Albaanee traversed, may Allaah have mercy upon him. If you oppose it then you are not from him, even if you clung to him from the time he began his studies up until the time he died, this would not suffice you. For the scholars free themselves from those who oppose (the truth). They free themselves from those who oppose (the truth). For this reason, this is of no benefit. So pay attention to this.

BACKBITING THE INNOVATORS – 14 narrations of the Salaf for the PERMISSIBILITY of backbiting innovators.

NOTE: It is not considered backbiting when talking about the people of desires and innovation, and those who oppose the Salaf:
  1.      Al-A’amash reported that Ibraaheem (An-Nakha’ee) said: “There is no backbiting with regard to (talking about) the innovator.” [Al-Laalikaa’ee (1/140, no: 276)]
2.      Al-Hasan Al-Basree said: “There is no backbiting with regard to (talking about) the innovator or the sinner who openly professes his evil.” [Al-Laalikaa’ee (1/140, no: 279)]
3.      And he also said: “There is no backbiting when it concerns the people of innovations.” [Al-Laalikaa’ee (1/140, no: 280)]
4.      Al-Fudayl Ibn ‘Iyyaad said: “Whoever enters upon a person of innovation, then he has no sanctity (i.e. protection from being talked about).” [Al-Laalikaa’ee (1/140, no: 282) ]
5.      Sufyaan Ibn ‘Uyainah said: “Shu’abah used to say: ‘Come let us backbite for the sake of Allaah, ‘azza wa jall.’” [Al-Kifaayah fee ‘Ilm-ir-Riwaayah of al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee (91) and Sharh ‘Ilal At-Tirmidhee of Ibn Rajab (1/349)]
6.      Abu Zayd Al-Ansaaree An-Nahwee said: “Shu’abah came to us on a rainy day and said: ‘This is not a day for (learning) hadeeth. Today is a day for backbiting. Come let us backbite the liars (in hadeeth).’” [Al-Kifaayah fee ‘Ilm-ir-Riwaayah of al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee (91)]
7.      On the authority of Makkee Ibn Ibraaheem who said: “Shu’abah used to go to ‘Imraan Ibn Hudayr saying (to him): ‘O ‘Imraan, come let us backbite for an hour for the sake of Allaah.’ And they would mention the faults and defects of hadeeth reporters.” [Al-Kifaayah fee ‘Ilm-ir-Riwaayah of al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee (91)]
8.      Abu Zur’ah Ad-Dimashqee said: “I heard Abu Mushar being asked about a man that makes mistakes, misconstrues and distorts ahaadeeth, so he said: ‘Make his affair known.’ So I said to Abu Zur’ah: ‘Do you consider that to be backbiting?’ He said: ‘No.’” [Sharh ‘Ilal At-Tirmidhee of Ibn Rajab (1/349) and Al-Kifaayah of Al-Baghdaadee (91-92) but there occurs in Al-Khateeb’s report: “So I said to Abu Mushar” instead of “So I said to Abu Zur’ah.”]
9.      ‘Abdullah Ibn Al-Mubaarak said: “Al-Mi’allaa Ibn Hilaal is fine except when it comes to hadeeth, he lies.” So someone among the sufis (i.e. ascetics) said: “O Abu ‘Abdir-Rahmaan! Are you backbiting?” So he said: “Be quiet! If we do not clarify this, how will the truth be made known from the falsehood?” [Sharh ‘Ilal At-Tirmidhee of Ibn Rajab (1/349) and Al-Kifaayah of Al-Baghdaadee (91-92) ]
10.  ‘Abdullaah, the son of Imaam Ahmad said: “Abu Turaab An-Nakhshabee once went to my father, so my father began saying ‘this person is weak’ and ‘that person is reliable.’ So Abu Turaab said: ‘O Shaikh, do not backbite the scholars!’ So my father turned to him and said: ‘Woe be to you! This is advice, this is not backbiting.”[Al-Kifaayah fee ‘Ilm-ir-Riwaayah of al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee (92) and Sharh ‘Ilal At-Tirmidhee of Ibn Rajab (1/350)]
11.  Muhammad Ibn Bindaar As-Sabbaak Al-Jarjaanee said: “I once said to Ahmad Ibn Hanbal: ‘Verily, it is becoming hard upon me to say: (So and so is weak) and (so and so is a liar). So Ahmad said: ‘If you remain silent and I remain silent, then who will make the ignorant person aware of the authentic from the defective?’”[Majmoo’-ul-Fataawaa of Ibn Taimiyyah (28/231)]
12.  Shaudhab reported that Katheer Abu Sahl said: “It used to be said: ‘The people of desires do not have any sanctity (i.e. protection from being talked about).” [Al-Laalilkaa’ee (1/140, no: 281)]
13.  Al-Hasan Ibn ‘Alee Al-Iskaafee said: “I asked Abu ‘Abdillaah Ahmad Ibn Hanbal about the meaning of backbiting. He responded: “It is when you mention the defect of a person.” I said: “What if the person says: ‘Do not hear (hadeeth) from so and so’ and ‘Such and such person makes mistakes (in his narration)?’” He said: “If the people were to abandon doing this, the authentic would not be known from its opposite.” [Sharh ‘Ilal At-Tirmidhee (1/350-351)]
14.  Isma’eel Al-Khatabee said: ‘Abdullaah Ibn Ahmad reported to us, saying: “I said to my father: ‘What do you say about seekers of Hadeeth going to a teacher who perhaps is murji’ee or a shi’ee or he has some opposition to the Sunnah in him. Is it permitted for me to remain silent about him or should I warn against him?’ So my father said: ‘If he calls the people to innovation and he is an Imaam (or a head figure) in that and calls to that, then yes, warn against him.’” [Al-Kifaayah (93) and Sharh ‘Ilal At-Tirmidhee (1/350) ]

The trial of Imam Ahmad, in his time, from the people of misguidance, claiming the Qur’aan was created- MUST READ

This issue, of claiming that the Qur’an is created, as you all are aware, is very serious. Great trial occured for Ahl As-Sunnah due to this issue, and at the head of (those who sustained great difficulty and tribulations was) Al-Imam Ahmed. During this trial, people were imprisoned, tortured, and killed. All of this was done by the Jahmiyah and the Mutazilah during the time of Al-Ma’mun, Al-Mu’tasim, and Al-Wathiq, during three different leaderships from the Abbasid Dynasty. The Islamic Ummah was put through a great trial by way of the Jahmiyah, the Mutazilah, and the other people of misguidance and deviation, where they gained power over the People of the Sunnah, but in the end Allaah decreed that the good end would be for His pious servants. Al Imam Ahmad exerted immense patience, persevering upon imprisonment, torture, and severe burdens that even the mountains would not be able to bare. So Allaah raised his level and his status, eventually becoming the Imam of Ahl As-Sunnah in truth.

Book: An explanation of Imam Ahmad’s foundations of the Sunnah – Shaykh Dr. Rabee ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee – Page 74

Must Read | Shaykh Z. Al-Madkhali: “The Innovator is the cause for the splitting (in the ummah)…

Al-Allaamah Zaid Bin Haadi Al-Madkhali (may Allaah preserve him) said:

”The mubtadi (the innovator) is the cause for the splitting (in the ummah); because splitting is connected to innovation and unity (upon the sound creed and methodology of the Salaf) is connected to the Sunnah. The obligation of refuting the Mukhaalif (the opposer of the truth) is not lifted from the scholar due to anticipation of harm, unless it is harm he is not able to bear. Then (in this case), Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear. The earth is not devoid of people of knowledge who will carry out refutation against the Mubtadi and the Mukhaalif.”

“Theres not one person the Salafees havent refuted” – Nonsense refuted by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Haadee- Great Answer!

Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee reads the question:

O noble Shaykh, we love you for the sake of Allah, and then all the people of knowledge those who defend the Sunnah and its people—(we say may Allah the One whose sake you love us for love you, and make us and you for those who love each other for the sake of Allah)—but  O Shaykh there is a doubt that some of the people bring, they say: You have not left alone anyone except that you have spoken against them. We want clarity; may Allah reward you with good?

Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee answers: I say: This speech is from that which the people say, and the intent from it is to turn the people away from Ahlus Sunnah, and the intent is to make the people flee from Ahlus Sunnah such that they can alter the atmosphere to the likes of this person who says this, and thus mislead the people. We say this is not correct. For verily Allah—the Exalted—has taken a covenant with people of knowledge that they clarify the truth. And clarifying the truth to the creation is obligatory upon the person who knows it, because it is from advice and sincerity. And falsehood is only established by people, just as the truth is only established by people. Thus warning from falsehood must be accompanied by warning against the people of falsehood.

The Prophet, prayers and peace are upon him, described a people with descriptions and he warned against them before they came; may prayers and peace be upon him. And this was advice and sincerity to his Ummah; peace be upon him. So he warned against the Khawarij by mentioning their descriptions. And he warned against those who would come after him from the callers to the gates of the hell-fire, by mentioning that they will be from our skin, speaking our language. Therefore he warned against them; prayers and peace are upon him. And he warned us from those who follow the doubtful matters. Thus he explained the statement of the Blessed and Exalted:

It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise – they are the foundation of the Book – and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them].(Soorah AaliImraan 3:7)

This is their condition. Thus he said to Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her:

“O Aisha if you see those who follow the unspecific verses, then they are those whom Allah has mentioned so beware of them.”

Thus Allah—the Exalted—informed us about those who have a deviation in their hearts, this is their description, they follow the unspecific verses seeking discord and seeking an interpretation suitable to them. As for the believer, then no; rather he returns the unspecific verses back to the clear verses because the foundation is the clear verses. As the Exalted said:

It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise – they are the foundation of the Book – and others unspecific.

Thus it is obligatory to return the subsidiary matters back to the foundation, the mother of the Book and these are the clear verses. But the one with a disease in his heart, he is the one who follows the unspecific verses. Therefore the Prophet, prayers and peace are upon him, said: “Beware of them”. And there are numerous narrations similar to this narrated from him, prayers and peace be upon him. And he said concerning a man: “There shall come from his loins…” and other narrations as well. He said about the Qadariyah what he said about them. He said:

“The Qadariyah are the Majus of this Ummah, if they become sick then do not visit them and if they die do not witness their funerals.”

Abdullah ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “If you meet them then inform them that verily I am free from them and verily they are free from me”. And the other narrations narrated from him; prayers and peace are upon him, and narrated from the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them all. And the intent from that is advice and sincerity to the creation; having mercy for them and compassion for them so they will not go astray. Thus whoever speaks with falsehood and calls to falsehood then his affair must be clarified, and his condition must be explained to the people so they will not go astray.

As for their statement: “You have not left anyone (except that you have spoken against them)” then this speech is from exaggeration and scare tactics. And all praises belong to Allah. Look at the number of those who have been spoken against. Count them; are you able to count them or not? You are able to count them. Therefore this statement is incorrect. This statement is false, this statement is false. And we know who they intend by this, they intend those who were (upon the straight path) and they regressed. And Allah the Glorified and Exalted makes firm whomever He will, by His mercy and His virtue. And He leads astray and deviates whom He wills by His wisdom and justice. Thus we ask Allah the Glorified and Exalted for firmness upon the truth and guidance until we meet Him.

Umar may Allah be pleased with him, said: The truth has refused to leave me a friend. This is because if you enjoin the good upon the people and forbid them from the evil some of them will accept it and some of them will not. Thus the one who accepts it then he is in agreement and the one who does not accept it then you have performed the right of Allah. And subsequently it is a must that something falls into his heart if Allah did not bestow upon him from His mercy, so he will turn away. At this point he will begin to make excuses for himself and he will say, “No one is safe from his criticism”. And will Allah aid is sought. Allah has described the believers with His statement:

The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Those – Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. (Soorah AtTawbah 9:71)

This is the condition of the believing men and this is the condition of the believing women, they enjoin the good and they forbid the evil, teaching the truth and directing the creation and forbidding the evil and establishing the good. This is what comprises the life, all of it; teaching the truth and directing the creation and enjoining the good and forbidding the evil. These are the aspects of life. But as for the one who does not want to hear, this is incorrect this is false; this will do nothing for him against Allah.
