Question: What is meant by the salafi madhab?

Answer: What is meant by the salafi madhab is the way of the salaf (early generations) of this ummah, namely the Sahaba, Taabieen and prominent imams with regard to issues of ‘aqeedah, sound method, sincere faith and adherence to the beliefs, laws, etiquette and conduct of Islam, unlike the innovators, deviants and those who are confused…
There is nothing wrong with calling them Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jamaah, so as to differentiate between them and the followers of deviant groups. This is not praising oneself, rather it is distinguishing between the people of truth and the people of falsehood.

Eighth Question:

Some people say “I believe that the Salafee manhaj is the truth, however the character of the Salafees runs me away from this manhaj.”

Answer:

The answer to this question is from many aspects.

The first, did you accept Islam and follow the Salafee manhaj for the people or for Allaah? (Did you accept it) for Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, (and) to follow His religion, and to seek the reward from Him, the High and Exalted. You do not seek the reward from the people. If the people make mistakes, then stay away from their mistakes. And the one who mixes with the people and is patient upon their harm is better than those who do not mix with the people. This is the first thing.

The second thing: if you find from your brothers some opposition, mistakes and bad manners and they are Salafees, then you advise them and clarify to them, and be diligent upon guiding them.

Thirdly, by Allaah, your Salafee brothers with their bad manners that you complain about, they are – by Allaah – better than the hizbees, those whom you claim to possess praiseworthy mannerisms.

Fourthly, the Salafee with his manners is more lofty than the hizbee who has manners. This is because the hizbee is lowly and disgraced due to his hizbiyyah, and his oppositions to the truth.

Fifthly, we say to you O brother, (that) shaytaan in regards to these Salafee is diligent upon causing conflicts and disputes between them and trying to corrupt their mannerisms, so let not you be a prey for shaytaan that he distances you from your Salafee brothers. Also shaytaan is far from those hizbees, because shaytaan doesn’t come to a house that’s already destroyed. Just as some of the Salaf would say – I think al-Awzaa’ee or other than him:

“Ahlus Sunnah causes the people to flee or isolate away from them.“

Why? Because Shaytaan comes to them and tries to lure them and tries to flee the people away from them. As for the people of innovation, they have calmness and tranquility, so shaytaan can use them as a trap to (misguide) the people. So beware, beware that you be deceived by the good mannerisms of these people and you fall into their trap, for verily this is nothing but poison and it is destruction. And beware, beware that you flee from the truth because of some alienation or some bad dealings that you find from your brothers.

Then – may Allaah not decree – if you do stumble across this matter, if you remain patient and seek your reward with Allaah, you will find your reward with Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic. So beware of the likes of this affair, may Allaah bless you.

It Is Not A Proof That So And So Is Salafee Simply Because He Studied With A Salafee Shaykh

Be mindful: Some people use as a proof (the fact that) so and so from the students of Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen or from the students of Shaykh Ibn Baaz, that so and so (this person) is Salafee. No. This is not a distinguishing sign according to the Salafees. It is only the Minhaj, manners, and attestation.

Due to this, frequently we get the question: “A man came to us claiming that is was from the students of Shaykh Muqbil; from the students of Shaykh Rabee’; from the students of Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen.” Is this sufficient? The answer is no. Not until he is attested to. Hence, he may be, and this is something well-known, he may be from the present day opposers. Rather, perhaps some of them are Takfeeree; some of them are perhaps Takfeeree, even if he ascribes to having studied under Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen. Due to that, it is not to be used as a proof that so and so is similar to him. Clear? This is a benefit, so pay attention to it.

Due to this, when ‘Alee Al-Halabee comes to us and says: “I am from the students of Al-Albaanee.” That’s it, he is ruled to enter directly into Jannah?! He is ruled to have knowledge absolutely?! No, this does not suffice you; not until you walk and traverse upon the methodology of the Salaf upon which Al-Albaanee traversed, may Allaah have mercy upon him. If you oppose it then you are not from him, even if you clung to him from the time he began his studies up until the time he died, this would not suffice you. For the scholars free themselves from those who oppose (the truth). They free themselves from those who oppose (the truth). For this reason, this is of no benefit. So pay attention to this.

Question: Some of our Salafi brothers sit with the people who follow their desires, (What is your advice to them)?

Response (By Shaykh Rabee’) I will mention some examples for you. The likes of this happend to Ibn Aqil, Al-Bayhaqi, Al-Harawi, and many others throughout Islamic History. Many people throughout history were enticed by the knowledge they have, so they sat with the people of innovation and desires, leading them to lost (I.e. Deviation). In this are many lessons and admonitions. This occurred to people that once followed the way of the Salaf, but because they sat with the people of innovation, mixed with them, and read the books of the people of falsehood, they deviated and got lost. So my advice for these individuals is to benefit from their brothers, and before that to benefit from the great Manhaj which encourages you to be safe from all deviance and misguidance, and protected from all evil. By Allaah, nothing is equal to safety from misguidance and trials.

Question: Is rebelling against the Muslim Rulers only with the sword, or does it include speaking ill of them?

Response (Shaykh Rabee’): All of this is considered revolting against the ruler. The one who invokes the people with his speech, he is referred to as Al-Qu’ad. Al-Ibadiyah are from this type of khawaarij, they encourage jihad, but they themselves do not go out, but simply encourage the people to go out. So these people are called Al-Khawarij Al-Qu’ad. As for the one who rebels with the sword, then his affairs is clear, he is a clear rebel. But nevertheless, all of them are khawarij

What is Salafiyyah?

Salafiyyah is the correct Islaam, the Original Affair, The saved sect, the Aided group & is what Allaah revealed to His Messenger before the emergence of all the Deviant sects.

The Messenger of Allaah salallaahu alaihi wa sallam said: “I am a blessed Salaf for you,” and Salafiyyah is taking the Messenger as Imam in ‘aqeedah, Manhaj, Character, Manner of worship & Understanding the entire Religion- each ayah and hadeeth- as he (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) explained it to his Companions.

Linguistically, the Salaf are those who preceded, as Imam an-Nawawee rahimahullaah and many other scholars rahimahullaah have explained. The Salaf are:

1) Prophet (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam)
2) &all the Sahabah
3) Then the tabi’een
4) Then the atba’ at-Tabi’een

And this is in accordance to the statement of the Prophet salallaahu alaihi wa sallam: The best of mankind is my generation; then those who come after them; then those who come after them. [Bukharee & Muslim]

And the Salafee is the one who follows them in belief, methodology, da’wah, ‘ibaadah, manners, and character. So Salafiyyah is a connection to the Salaf.

“The jews split into 71 sects. The Christians split into 72 sects. This Ummah will split into 73 sects, ALL of them will be in the fire EXCEPT ONE. They (the Sahabah) said: “Who are they (that saved sect), oh Messenger of Allaah?” He (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said: They are the ones who are upon what I and my companions are upon.
[Aboo Dawood, Ibn Majah, Ahmad]

Shaykh ‘Ubayd al-Jaabiree (hafidhahullah) said: “And ad-Da’watus-Salafiyyah is understanding the Qur’an and Sunnah as Allaah and His Messenger (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) have commanded us to do so. And it is doing what Allaah and His Messenger have commanded us to do, desiring the reward that is with Allaah. And it is staying away from that which Allaah and His Messenger have prohibited, fearing the punishment of Allaah. Salafiyyah isn’t a new terminology; rather It is old.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-‘Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) said: “As-Salafiyyah is following the methodology of the Prophet (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) and his Companions, because he (salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) is from our Salaf. The Companions are those who preceded us, therefore following them is Salafiyyah.

Allaah, subhanahu wa ta’ala says:
“And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (Muhammad salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) after the right path has been shown clearly to him- and follow other than the believers (companions) way- We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell. What an evil destination. [An-Nisa’ , ayah 115)

In these times, If you see a person loving these scholars, then know he is a man of Sunnah, for Loving them…

In these times we say: If you find a person loving Ibn Baaz, al-Albaanee, Ibn Uthaimeen, the great scholars of this era (Rahimahumullaah). And likewise, Saalih al-Fawzaan, Ahmad an-Najmee (Rahimahullaah), Rabee’ ibn Haadee, Muhammad Ameen al-Jaamee (Rahimahullaah), Muqbil bin Haadee (Rahimahullaah), Zayd al-Madkhalee, Ubaid al-Jaabiree and their likes, then know he is a man of Sunnah, for loving them is a distinguishing sign of ahlus-Sunnah. And having hatred and enmity for them is a distinguishing sign of ahlul-Bid’ah.

Examples from the Salaf for the permissibility of saying such comments:

1) Sufyaan ath-Thawree (Rahimahullaah) said: Test the people of Mawsil (in Iraq) with Mu’aafaa ibn ‘Imraan.” [1]

Ibn Mahdee (Rahimahullaah) said: “If you see a person of Basrah loving Hammaad ibn Zaid, then he is a person of Sunnah.” [2]

Ahmad ibn ‘Abdullaah ibn Yoonus (Rahimahullaah) said: Test the people of Mawsil with Mu’aafah ibn ‘Imraan, and if they love him they are ahlus-Sunnah, and if they hate him then they are ahlul-bid’ah- just as the people of Koofah should be tested with Yahyaa.” [3]

Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Mahdee (Rahimahullah) said: “The people of Basrah with Ibn ‘Awn, so if you see a man loving him, then be at ease with him. For the people of Koofah, it is Maalik ibn Mighwal and Zaa’idah ibn Qudaamah, so if you find a man loving him, have hope in his goodness. As for the people of Shaam (Syria, Jordan etc.), it is al-Awzaa’ee and Abu Ishaaq al-Fazaaree. For the people of Hijaaz, it is Maalik ibn Anas.” [4]
